A clean facade is not just about appearance – biological contaminants such as algae, moss and lichen penetrate the render and accelerate its deterioration. Regular cleaning with the right chemicals stops this process and significantly extends the life of your facade. In this category you will find a complete range of professional facade cleaning products – from powerful biocidal agents to gentle concentrates for routine maintenance and surface preparation before painting.
Each product in this category serves a specific role in the cleaning process. Choosing the right product depends on the type of contamination, the condition of the facade and any planned follow-up work. Below you will find a detailed description of each product and guidance on when to use it.
1. Cleaning agent (Power Fasad or Clean Fasad) – 2. Optional scrubbing – 3. Neutralisation (Neutral Fasad). Skipping neutralisation after chlorine-based products can cause discolouration and poor paint adhesion.
Which facade cleaning product should you choose?
The right product depends primarily on the type of contamination. Use the table below to match the correct product to your specific problem.
| Type of contamination | Recommended product | Dilution | Contact time |
|---|---|---|---|
| Algae, moss, lichen, green growth | Power Fasad | neat or 1:3 | 10-30 min |
| Light/medium soiling, preparation before painting | Clean Fasad | ready to use | 5-10 min |
| Dust, soot, light atmospheric deposits | Safe Fasad | 1:10 to 1:20 | 5 min |
| Neutralisation after chlorine-based cleaning | Neutral Fasad | 1:5 to 1:10 | 5-10 min |
What is the difference between each facade cleaning product?
Power Fasad – heavy-duty biocidal cleaner for algae and moss
Power Fasad is a sodium hypochlorite-based product designed to remove the most stubborn biological contamination. It effectively tackles algae, moss, lichen, mould and green growth on render, ceramic and cement roof tiles, block paving, natural stone and walls and fencing.
Results are visible within 10 minutes of application. For very heavy soiling apply neat; for lighter contamination dilute 1:3 with water. After use, Neutral Fasad must always be applied – the product contains active sodium hypochlorite which requires neutralisation before any further work.
When to use: heavily soiled facades, thorough cleaning before renovation, removing years of biological build-up.
Warning: do not use on non-ferrous metals, timber or surfaces sensitive to alkaline and oxidising agents.
Clean Fasad – facade preparation before painting
Clean Fasad contains 5% active oxygen and is designed to remove light and medium soiling – green growth, atmospheric deposits and greasy stains. It degreasesthe surface and improves paint adhesion, making it the ideal product to use immediately before painting render.
Apply ready to use without dilution – apply to the surface, leave for 5-10 minutes, scrub with a brush and rinse with water. Like Power Fasad, it requires Neutral Fasad to be applied afterwards.
When to use: surface preparation before painting or priming, lightly and moderately soiled facades, degreasing substrates.
Warning: do not apply to hot surfaces or in direct sunlight.
Safe Fasad – gentle concentrate for routine cleaning
Safe Fasad is a neutral-formula concentrate designed to remove light atmospheric soiling – dust, soot and everyday deposits. High yield at a dilution of 1:10 to 1:20 makes it an economical choice for regular facade maintenance.
The neutral formula is safe for render, concrete, brick and stone. No neutraliser is required after use. Can be applied by hand (brush, sponge) or pressure washer.
When to use: routine cleaning of new and refurbished building facades, removing everyday atmospheric soiling, light substrate preparation before painting.
Neutral Fasad – essential neutraliser after cleaning
Neutral Fasad is a specialist neutraliser used as the final step after cleaning with sodium hypochlorite or active oxygen products (Power Fasad, Clean Fasad). It balances the surface pH, removes residual active substances and prevents discolouration and loss of paint and render adhesion.
Dilute 1:5 to 1:10 – apply evenly with a sprayer or brush, leave for 5-10 minutes and rinse thoroughly with clean water. Safe for render, concrete, brick and stone.
When to use: always after Power Fasad or Clean Fasad, before painting, priming or applying render.
How to clean a facade step by step
- Assess the facade – identify the type of soiling and select the right product using the table above. For heavy biological contamination start with Power Fasad; for light soiling use Safe Fasad.
- Prepare the area – protect plants, ventilation openings and metal elements. When using Power Fasad or Clean Fasad always wear protective gloves and eye protection.
- Apply the product – apply using a sprayer, brush or pressure washer. Start at the top of the facade and work downwards.
- Contact time – leave the product on the surface as directed (Power Fasad: 10-30 min, Clean Fasad: 5-10 min, Safe Fasad: 5 min). Do not allow the product to dry out – in hot weather dampen the surface with water.
- Scrubbing – for stubborn soiling scrub with a stiff-bristle brush.
- Rinse – rinse thoroughly with water at 80-120 bar. Rinse from top to bottom.
- Neutralise – after Power Fasad or Clean Fasad always apply Neutral Fasad diluted 1:5 to 1:10. Apply, leave for 5-10 minutes and rinse.
Can facade cleaning chemicals be used with a pressure washer?
Yes – all products in this category are compatible with pressure washers fitted with a chemical dosing system (SoftWash). Power Fasad and Clean Fasad are best applied using the SoftWash method at low pressure – this allows the product to penetrate the soiling rather than being washed off mechanically. Safe Fasad can be used both by hand and at full working pressure.
For rinsing we recommend 80-120 bar – higher pressures can damage mineral or silicate render.
How to remove algae and green growth from render
Algae and green growth require a product with an active biocidal ingredient. Power Fasad, based on sodium hypochlorite, produces visible results within 10 minutes of application. For long-established, deeply embedded growth apply neat and leave for 20-30 minutes. After rinsing always apply Neutral Fasad.
Important: a pressure washer alone without chemicals will remove growth mechanically, but spores remain and regrowth will occur within weeks. A biocidal product destroys the organisms and slows regrowth.
